Question:

Muscles grow while you are working out – true or false?
To get washboard abs keep doing daily crunches, the more the better – true or false?

Answer:
The gym is the place where myths and legends abound. The answer to both questions is false. Muscles grow during rest and recuperation. If you keep working the same muscle, it never gets a chance to repair the muscle fibers that are torn down during the workout. In fact, overuse leads to injury, depression and is a real motivation-killer. You should never train the same muscles daily – abdominals included. Regarding wash board abs, well they are a genetic tendency. However, you can improve your abs with a healthy lean diet and make sure to do cardio to burn fat all over your body, including your abdominal area. Incorporate various abdominal exercises like crunches, bicycles, planks, etc. into your workout. Keep challenging yourself and make each repetition count. Mind your muscle!
