Question:

I’ve been getting into a more healthy way of living doing cardio and strength training and trying to eat better. I train early before work. What’s the scoop on breakfast? I tend to skip it. (Joyce T, Levittown)

Answer:
Good choice on getting into a healthier lifestyle. Make it a lifelong journey!

Of all the nutritional mistakes you might make, skipping breakfast is the biggest. A high energy breakfast supports a high energy day.

Before you workout, you don’t want to be full. However, a banana, or slice of whole wheat bread with peanut butter and a glass of juice will give you a boost to get through your workout. You will stabilize depleted glycogen stores and fuel muscles for your workout.

After your workout, it’s time to refuel with healthy choices: Cereal and fruit, whole grain toast, a low-fat/low-sugar bran muffin, low-fat yogurt with cereal for that added crunch, a banana, shakes (juice, fruit, yogurt). If you have more time, make yourself some egg whites.

You have to put gas in the car for it to run. Fuel up and the body runs efficiently. Throughout the day try eating smaller portions more frequently. Health is inside out. Please add breakfast to your training regimen.
